Co-design thrives on diverse perspectives
The Helmholtz Water Initiative brings together science, practice, and other societal actors to jointly address water security challenges. The exchange of these perspectives generates knowledge that is relevant to practice.
Sustainable water management in Germany will only succeed if science and application cooperate much more closely. Innovation arises where research and implementation are considered together and solutions are developed jointly.

No solution without cooperation
[Translate to English:] For the successful management of water as a key resource, it is essential that science actively collaborates with users, local authorities, politicians, and industry to develop future-proof strategies for sustainable and innovative water management. All too often, we produce excellent research results in the laboratory that are inadequately implemented in practice. The challenges – from adapting to climate change and reducing water losses to digitising our water networks – require interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary cooperation that closely links theory and application. Without this partnership-based networking, much potential remains untapped and practical implementation gaps remain. Only by working together can we realise efficient, resilient, and socially acceptable solutions.
